Professional basketball player Andrew Michael Bogut was born on November 28, 1984 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. While growing up, he patterned his basketball game after Toni Kukoc. He attended the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) and got an opportunity to tour the United States in 2001 and 2002. During his last season at AIS, he averaged 29 points, 14.5 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game while competing in the SEABL. He then led the Australian team to win the 2003 FIBA Junior World Championships where he was named the tournament MVP.
Bogut went to the University of Utah and as a freshman in 2003-04, he averaged 12.5 points and 9.9 rebounds per game. He was also named Freshman of the Year in the Mountain West Conference. During his years in the NCAA, he was the leading vote-getter on the AP All-American team who earned Player of the Year honors from the Associated Press and ESPN.com as well as the Naismith and Wooden Awards.
Andrew Bogut was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks as the first overall pick during the 2005 NBA Draft. He became the first Australian player and the second Utah player to be drafted number one overall. He currently plays for the Golden State Warriors in the NBA, after he was traded along with Stephen Jackson in exchange for Monta Ellis, Ekpe Udoh and Kwame Brown.
