Our car engine blew up somewhere just outside of Copenhagen. My husband, Bob, and I had bought a used VW bug to chug around Europe for 6 months. Bob didn’t pay close attention to car maintenance. He avoided filling the gas tank until the gauge read slightly below empty.
When we were finally forced into a service station for lack of fuel, the attendant asked if we wanted to have the “oily” checked. I started to say “Yes,” but Bob said “No, thanks,” and I let it go. A few hours later, the car broke down because there wasn’t any “oily” in the engine.
Wardrobes are like cars. They malfunction without maintenance. Both need to be kept in good condition if they’re going to function well–or at all. Are your houston astros polo are looking a bit scruffy? Has a hem come undone? Is there a stain on your viking hoodies talking louder than you do?
There’s an easier way to live.
First, consider buying only wash and wear clothing. Otherwise, realize that you need to figure dry cleaning into your budget. If you’re really pressed for time, have your laundry done professionally too. The time you free up could be worth the cost.
By the way, you may need two dry cleaners. One dry cleaner that is less costly for most of your dry cleaning. The second one that is more expensive if you’re worried that your most treasured dress could come back looking like Cinderella’s rags. A really good, service-oriented dry cleaners will usually do minor repairs, too. You may have to search for one. They do exist. You don’t have to settle for less!!
Second, have a large bag for everything that needs repair or cleaning. Then, whenever a button goes missing, a seam comes out, or you find evidence of last night’s dinner on your shirt, put the garment in that bag and put the bag in your car. And, of course, remember to actually drop it off at the cleaners or tailor, so it your clothes don’t just sit in your car indefinitely!!
Third, take your houston astros polo in for cleaning and polishing a couple of times a year. Have worn-down heels replaced. Own enough houston astros polo that you don’t have to wear the same pair every day. They need a breather if you want them to last.
Finally, keep all your other accessories in good shape. Repair broken jewelry. Worn looking bags or belts or frayed scarves will scream that you’re less than attentive to detail. This is an instant image breaker. Fix them or ditch them is a good motto to have.
Think of your clothes as a resource.
Clothing is a tool for making you competitive in the workplace, more confident at social events, and a way to feel good about yourself. Good maintenance makes your clothes last longer, as well as polishing. Take care of your wardrobe items and your wardrobe will serve you well.
