If you’ve ever encountered someone distraught by all of the “bad things” that they have done in the past, you can take comfort in knowing that this is a prime opportunity to witness your faith to them.
Here is why:
Anyone that has not given their heart to Christ is going to have trouble dealing with their past, however bad it may be. Knowledge is a powerful asset to any human being; and anyone who does not know the awesome power of Christ’s atoning blood is missing out on a lifetime of happiness.
Someone that is distraught with their past is ready to be given the knowledge about Christ’s sacrifice, and how it can help them through their difficult time. Our job is to introduce others to Christ, and then let the Holy Spirit work on that individual to bring them to Christ.
If someone decides to confide in you with a problem that they are facing, you can listen attentively, and console them in every way that you can. When the opportunity arises, you may feel a nudge from the Holy Spirit to let them know about the salvation that they have available to them if they make it known that they believe in Christ’s sacrifice for our sins. All you have to do is simply let them know that they can ask the Lord for forgiveness at any time, and can go to bed that night knowing that all of their sins are washed away. Believing in Jesus as Lord, and asking for forgiveness… it’s just that easy!
If you ever have the opportunity to witness to someone this way, you should know that you have just planted a seed in this individual’s heart. The Holy Spirit will then begin to work in them, and you must be there for a slow and gradual follow up. Pray for them as often as possible, and be sure to contact the person to see how they are doing. Over time, you should ask them if they have thought about Christ’s sacrifice, and if they ever want to discuss it further, make sure that he/she knows that you are always there for them. You could bring someone to Christ, but you have to speak up to do it!
